This novel is influenced by realism because it is told from the point of view of a boy who didn’t really have much money at first. Huck Finn came from a family that wasn’t rich, and we know that because they didn’t get educated. Huck’s mother died, ad his father was a drunkard. Huck then came into some money with his friend Tom Sawyer, and he began getting education when he moved to live with the widow. Realism is the representation of things as they actually are, and not how others portray them. Huckleberry Finn is a representation of Realism because when he was a lower class citizen, he wasn’t treated with much respect until he came into some money. Huck’s father then took him back to his house, and Huck’s life changed drastically. He was beaten and locked in the house all day, and because their was hardly any money Huck’s father was always mad, and always drunk. Realism plays a big role in this novel/movie. Huck Finn’s life on the road is played out in all of it’s entirety and you see the way certain people treat them because they aren’t apart of their community and they don’t fit in, but the characters know how to put on a show, and try to fit in. It represents realism because the ending is not a fairytale. Things that happen in the story aren't fairytales. Like the ending when they part ways instead of staying friends, and when they boy Buck died fighting in a family grudge match after he and Huck became best friends.
This novel is influenced by regionalism because Huck and Jim go off to multiple places on their journey, and they meet several characters. Regionalism is the representation of certain regions. When Huck is at home with his Father, he cannot wear fancy clothes, he cannot get an education, and he can smoke, drink, and curse. When Huck is with the widow, in the town, he has to wear his fancy clothing, and go to school. Huck can’t swear, drink or smoke at the widow’s house. This shows that in different areas people are allowed to do different things. In that area people were racist. They didn't like black people, and they threw on the word "nigger" like they said "I". They also didn't support people that supported African Americans, they lynched a man for being a supporter. It just shows how people in the southern states really were at the time of this story.
Huckleberry Finn is a good representation of realism and regionalism because it combines them both in a general aspect. The novel/movie shows the real lives of the lower class, the slaves, the upper class and how they react to each other in different locations and settings.
